Making a Hat

Where to start with this story…hummm….I guess the best place to start is, ever since Kyler was born people have called him “A little Man”. “He is such a little man” people would say. Well one day I was in a fabric store looking at some things and I found the cutest little tags. What did they say…you’ll see. Well I had to buy the tags, but I needed to make something to put them on, so I decided to make him a hat. What possessed me I don’t know. So I bought a pattern, which should have been the first clue that I shouldn’t do it, and the material and headed home. Well, I don’t know how many of you have tried to follow a pattern lately, but I discovered you need a whole separate dictionary just to understand what the heck they are saying. So I ignored the words and tried to follow the pictures. Needless to say I sewed and unpicked this hat like a million times, I seriously almost when through a whole spool of orange thread. Hehehe, but I finally somehow turned that mess into a hat and a pretty cute one at that. The pictures will show you the tag, I LOVE IT!

Mothers Day, Pie's and Quilts

Well, I had a wonderful mothers day, Kyler made me the cutest card ever, and a note that said he would take Dad out for the afternoon while mom read her new book (the third Fablehaven book) I'm really excited for that. Brian also gave me a sweet card and a note I'll treasure forever. Mothers day was great!
Then I fianlly finished the quilts I made for Heather and Stacey. It only took me 6 months, go figure, :) but the timing was perfect, I got to give them to them on their 16th birthday! I can't believe they are 16, life sure goes by fast. It was really fun to watch them open them, I thought they turned out so good I had a hard time letting them go.
One of the best parts of Mothers Day is getting to spoil my mom. I admit it was a lot of work this year, with finding time to also see Brians Mom and spending time for myself. But it was worth it. My mom always asks for a blueberry pie for mothers day, I've had fun making them special. The picture of the pie with stars was last years pie, unfortunatly it ended up on the floor before anyone could eat it (yes I cried), and this year I did a crumble top instead of a crust, I think it's been my favorite.

The evil of jeans shopping

Well, the time has come, I have to buy new jeans. I have waited so long that all of my pairs now have holes in the knees or the seems in the thighs have split. I HATE jean shopping. I find it to be an unessisary evil. (though I guess at time like this it is nessisary) I don't know what it is that makes me think I have to be the same size I was as a sophmore in highschool, and because of that I always feel so FAT when I shop for pants, just because I am no longer a size 2. I think the only people who like shopping for jeans are a size 2. So I went to all this effort this morning, just to prepare myself to go jean shopping. I took Brian to work this morning so I could have the car, then when I put Kyler down for his nap I took a shower (I usually shower before I go to bed), put my contacts in (i've been were my glasses lately), did my make up and even curled my hair, yes..I even curled my hair. All so I could feel good about myself when I go shopping this afternoon. Pretty pathetic, and whats even more pathetic is I probable won't find any that fit right. They'll be to high in the waist, or to tight in the thighs, or poke out in the back. Sigh...can't I just wear holey jeans the rest of my life. :) Well....here goes nothing, I'll let you know how it goes.

Goblin Valley

Camping. I LOVE camping. I think the reason why I love camping is because it takes work to get what you want. If your cold, you have to make a fire, if your hungry, you have to make something (theres no microwave), for entertainment you play games instead of vegout, and you get so much more excersize doing all of this! But, it has now come to my attention that camping with a baby is even MORE work! We had SO much fun in Goblin Valley this last weekend, but now that we're home I have realized that I don't think I had a single down minute while we were there exept after I put Kyler down for the night :) It's good to be home.

We went to Goblin Valley with my family, it was a quick trip, but we had a great time. Kyler did so well. We bought this miniture tent for him so we could put him down anywhere and he could be in the shade. It was the smartest investment I've ever made.

We have played many games in Goblin Valley, but one that I hadn't played before, that we played this trip was Sardines. I hadn't played sinse I was a kid, it was a blast.

We also had a great time hiking the slots in wild horese canyon. This is a great hike. It's about 2.5 miles one way, but the elevation change is so gradual you hardly even notice it. It's also nice because the slots are nice and cool, so it keeps you out of the heat.

The rest of the time was spent feeding Kyler and my family and trying to catch up on the sleep we weren't getting at night. It was pretty cold for this time of year. 70's during the day and 30's-40's at night. We bought a sleeping bag for kyler and it worked pretty well, but I could figure out how to keep his face and hands warm...any suggestions?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures, it was a great adventure!

We had a hard time getting Kyler to take naps, partly because of the heat in the tent and partly becuase of the light. Anyway, I hope you get a kick out of this video, we thought it was pretty cute.
